Dental Exam and Cleaning

Oral hygiene

Good oral hygiene is essential to the prevention of gum disease and other serious dental issues. In addition to regular brushing and cleaning between the teeth, maintaining consistent dentist visits is key to maintaining optimal oral health. Our dentist and hygienists help keep your teeth and mouth healthy through oral exams, X-rays, screenings, professional teeth cleaning, treatments, and sealants.

Checkup frequency

It’s important to visit your dentist at least every six months for a general hygiene appointment. Regular oral exams help prevent tooth decay, cavities, and periodontal disease, and ensure any existing conditions are treated as soon as possible. The American Dental Association estimates over 40% of adults suffer from periodontal disease. Consistent dental checkups help reduce your chances of infection and increase the probability of early detection.

What to expect

During your visit, a certified hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar. We will then complete a comprehensive oral presentation exam, checking your teeth, mouth, face, jaw, and neck for j b  and any potential underlying conditions that may need further attention.

If necessary, we will also take X-rays of the interior of your teeth and gums to identify conditions that cannot be seen with the naked eye, like cavities, tooth decay, impacted teeth, and root damage.

Rest assured that we will keep you safe by using only low levels of radiation in the process and taking X-rays once a year unless it is deemed otherwise necessary by our dentist. If you are pregnant or believe you may be pregnant, please let us know before we begin any procedures.

Oral cancer screening

General hygiene appointments are essential for preventing oral health problems and identifying any that have developed before they worsen. During your visit, our dentist will perform a thorough oral cancer screening, including the evaluation of soft tissues, to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth. This allows our team to identify any abnormalities early and create a comprehensive treatment plan that is unique to your needs.

Fluoride treatment

Our office offers fluoride treatments that are available during your regular dental visit. These natural mineral treatments are optional but greatly beneficial. They help build strong teeth by supporting healthy tooth enamel and prevent cavities by fighting bacteria that can be harmful to your teeth and gums.

If you are at high risk for developing cavities, fluoride treatments can be especially helpful. They strengthen the enamel layer of your teeth which can get broken down by plaque, causing cavities.

Dental sealants

Regular brushing and flossing are your best course of action for keeping teeth clean and preventing cavities. However, even the most meticulous care can sometimes miss debris and bacteria in the more uneven spaces of your teeth, especially molars. Dental sealants are a great solution, preventing cavity development from the start.

These thin coatings, offered in our office, are applied onto the surface of your molars and prevent food and bacteria from getting into the crevices of your teeth.
