Dental implants are one of the best permanent options for patients with missing teeth. If you are a candidate for dental implants (based on your medical and dental history), Dr. Schomaker will discuss your expectations for the outcome, refer you to a surgical specialist, and make sure you understand the specifics of the procedure and the recovery.

During the surgery, the patient will be given anesthesia. The surgical specialist will then implant metal posts into the patient’s bone where teeth are missing. Then they will attach temporary acrylic teeth to these posts.

The patient will need to return to Dr. Schomaker’s office in three or four months after the metal posts have completely healed and fused to the bone and gums. At this return appointment, Dr. Schomaker will attach the permanent teeth which are designed to match the surrounding natural teeth and to function in the same way.

Like any restoration, implants require diligent oral hygiene and proper care to ensure they last a long time.
